Red Bay National Historic Site

Red Bay National Historic Site is a UNESCO World Heritage Site preserving the most complete archaeological record of early industrial-scale Basque whaling. The visitor experience spans a renovated Visitor Centre and extensive exterior interpretation across the village and Saddle Island. Beyond traditional exhibits, the project relies on non‑traditional, experiential, and landscape‑integrated design: boardwalk graphics, tactile models, outdoor sculptures, and full‑scale reconstructions of rendering ovens and cooperage stations on Saddle Island. Interior and exterior elements—augmented by large‑format graphics and digital media—connect archaeology, community, environment, and global maritime history in one cohesive experience.
